Description

Student employees of the Makers Studio will report to the Maker Studio Senior Coordinator and assist with operations and events of the space. This position is for the Spring semester 2026, with possible ongoing employment based on performance. The position offers a potential 5-10 hours per week at $14.00/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of a tool or tool group in the Makers Studio, create and lead associated trainings, and ensure tools are properly maintained, serviced, and kept orderly.
  • Lead Makers Studio safety trainings for students to ensure proper usage of the tools and equipment.
  • Overseeing usage, and check-out and check-in of Makers Studio tools.
  • Supporting Makers Studio events, competitions or programs through planning, marketing, facilitation, and assessment.
  • Assisting students with projects to ensure proper usage and safety protocols are followed for the Makers Studio space.
  • Notifying respective faculty of student violations of safety or usage procedures.
  • Assist in first aid as needed. First aid training will be provided.
  • Following emergency procedures, in the event a student is injured while using the Makers Studio.
  • Ensuring students clean up after using the Makers Studio.
  • Enforcing Personal Protective Equipment is appropriately worn as needed in the Makers Studio.
  • Securing Makers Studio and tools after each shift.
  • Clean Makers Studio after each shift.

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Makers Studio tools usage procedures and safety protocols in general.
  • Specific training for the Makers Studio tools will be provided upon employment.
  • Competency using tools in at least one section of the shop to include: woodworking machines, textile manufacturing, electronics and schematic design, 3D design and printing, CNC machining.
  • You will be required to help students with tools, as they may not be comfortable or have the skillset to use the Makers Studio tools safely.
  • Willingness to become CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Have availability to work during the evenings and possibly on weekends if needed.
