Success Coach

SSC Success Coaches provide individualized academic coaching on study skills, time management, and goal setting while serving as the first point of contact for students entering the SSC. They create a welcoming environment, connect students with resources, and represent the SSC at campus events.

The ideal candidate effectively manages their own academic responsibilities, demonstrates strong time management skills, and serves as a role model for peers, exhibiting high levels of academic achievement and engagement.

Requirements

- Front Desk Management: Serve as the first point of contact at the Student Success Center (SSC), welcoming students, families, faculty, and staff. Aid by answering questions, offering guidance, or referring visitors to appropriate campus departments.

- Tracking & Record Keeping: Assist in monitoring and maintaining records of daily SSC usage, including student check-ins.

- Administrative Support: Perform daily administrative tasks to ensure the SSC operates efficiently, including general upkeep of the space.

- Workshop Facilitation: Plan and lead group workshops focused on soft skills development.

- Campus Outreach & Presentations: Present SSC services to first-year department introductory classes and Fraternity Sorority Life (FSLs).

- Success Coaching: Provide peer-to-peer coaching to help students develop strategies for academic success, time management, goal setting, and personal growth. Guide students in identifying challenges and implementing effective tactics to improve their coursework and overall well-being.

- Mentor Collective (MC) Participation: MC is a student engagement platform that helps first-year students feel supported by pairing them with successful upperclassmen mentors. As a mentor, you'll be expected to engage with your assigned mentees for up to 6 hours per month. These regular interactions help first-year students stay connected to campus life, build meaningful relationships, and navigate their transition to college more successfully.

- Resource Referral: Maintain a strong understanding of campus resources and actively connect students with appropriate services, which may include escorting them to relevant offices or buildings.

- Student Engagement & Promotion: Foster a welcoming and supportive environment within the SSC. Encourage students to take advantage of available resources by participating in outreach efforts such as tabling events, Admissions & Recruitment (A&R) Days, Open House, and the Miner Welcome Bash. Some evening and weekend event participation may be required.

- Staff Training & Professional Development: Attend staff training sessions to stay informed about SSC updates, campus initiatives, and best practices for supporting students effectively.
