About the Department & Our Goal:
The Miner Engagement Center is part of University Advancement, the fundraising division of Missouri S&T. The Miner Engagement Center’s work is focused on promoting programs, initiatives, and impact stories from campus, and to solicit alumni, parents, students and friends to support fundraising initiatives. Our work is highly visible and makes a direct impact on the student experience by supporting department funds, scholarships, campus programs and other resources.

The work of the Miner Engagement Center spans the academic year:

  • Fall: Focus on fundraising through Phonathon and digital fundraising appeals.
  • Spring: Continue fundraising efforts while also reaching out to alumni about events.
  • Year-long: Digital outreach to inform potential donors of campus and department updates to encourage their financial support; event promotion to keep alumni connected to the university; stewardship/donor relations to thank our donors for their giving.

Position Overview:
Student Engagement & Creative Media Assistants serve as front-facing representatives of Missouri S&T, helping to connect students and alumni through outreach, storytelling, and fundraising support, this role provides hands-on experience with digital communication, annual giving campaigns and engagement strategies, alongside creative content production and office support. Students in this role directly contribute to Missouri S&T’s fundraising goals while making an immediate impact for the Miner community.

What You'll Do:

Fundraising & Alumni Outreach (Primary Focus)

  • Participate in warm outreach to alumni, parents, students and friends through calls, emails, and ThankView communications.
  • Support annual giving campaigns and other fundraising initiatives, helping alumni understand the impact of their gifts.
  • Share campus updates, student experiences, and the importance of alumni support to strengthen relationships.
  • Track progress and maintain organized records of outreach activities.

Engagement & Storytelling

  • Capture and share authentic student experiences that reflect Miner pride, campus life, and exciting initiatives around the university.
  • Record and edit short-form vertical videos for social media (CapCut, Reels, TikTok, Shorts).
  • Create simple graphics and visuals using Canva.
  • Interview students, faculty, and alumni in a conversational and approachable way.

Office & Administrative Support

  • Track contacts, project notes, and outreach progress using spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel) and Microsoft Word.
  • Assist with printing, organizing materials, and preparing documents.
  • Support general workflow to keep the Engagement Center running smoothly.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Consistent attendance and professional communication.
  • Comfortable making outreach phone calls and sharing campus updates with alumni.
  • Experience with CapCut and Canva for content creation.
  • Experience with spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel) and Microsoft Word.
  • Familiarity with ThankView or similar video-email communication platforms.
  • Friendly, approachable presence in conversation or on camera.
  • Ability to ask for clarity when needed and to work independently.
  • Leadership experience prior student employment role.
  • Familiarity with social media trends and storytelling through media.
  • Confident writing ability to prepare media plans, scripts, and social media posts.
  • Campus involvement in clubs, RSOs, or other groups preferred.

Schedule

  • 6–10 hours weekly, depending on project load and availability.
  • Primarily Monday–Wednesday, with flexibility for offsite work as long as students remain on track.
  • In-person work required when needed.

Future Opportunity
Students in this role receive priority consideration for Fall Phonathon hiring, focusing on calling and building direct alumni relationships. This is an excellent continued role for students who enjoy communication, fundraising, and relationship building.
