Position Overview
Success Coaches provide individualized academic coaching on study skills, time management, and goal setting while serving as the first point of contact for students entering the SSC. They create a welcoming environment, connect students with resources, and represent the SSC at campus events.
The ideal candidate effectively manages their own academic responsibilities, demonstrates strong time management skills, and serves as a role model for peers, exhibiting high levels of academic achievement and engagement.
Compensation: $13.90 per hour with potential to increase with time served
Qualifications
Academic Requirements: Candidates must be current Missouri S&T students in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.9–3.0 or higher.
Success Coaches should demonstrate strong academic performance within their major and general education coursework, reflecting the ability to model effective learning strategies and study habits for their peers.
Administrative Support: Provide daily administrative assistance to ensure the SSC operates efficiently. Responsibilities include maintaining the space, welcoming students, families, faculty, and staff, answering questions, offering guidance, and referring visitors to appropriate campus departments as needed. Assist in monitoring and maintaining records of daily SSC usage, including student check-ins.
Available to commit 6-10 hours a week for Coaching and administrative duties and 6 hours per month mentoring through Mentor Collective.
Workshops & Campus Outreach: Plan and lead group workshops focused on soft skills development, and present Student SSC services to first-year department classes, Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) organizations, and other campus groups as needed.
Success Coaching: Provide peer-to-peer coaching to help students develop strategies for academic success, time management, goal setting, and personal growth. Guide students in identifying challenges and implementing effective tactics to improve their coursework and well-being. Maintain a strong understanding of campus resources and actively connect students with appropriate services, including personally escorting them to relevant offices or buildings when needed.
Mentor Collective (MC) Participation: MC is a student engagement platform that helps first-year students feel supported by pairing them with successful upperclassmen mentors. As a mentor, you'll be expected to engage with your assigned mentees for up to 1-2 hours per month. These regular interactions help first-year students stay connected to campus life, build meaningful relationships, and navigate their transition to college more successfully.
Student Engagement & Promotion: Foster a welcoming and supportive environment within the SSC. Encourage students to take advantage of available resources by participating in outreach efforts such as tabling events, Admissions & Recruitment (A&R) Days, Open House, and the Miner Welcome Bash. Some evening and weekend event participation may be required.
Staff Training & Professional Development: Attend staff training sessions to stay informed about SSC updates, campus initiatives, and best practices for supporting students effectively.
