Job Overview:
The Student Security Analyst will assist the university’s Information Security team in managing user accounts and conducting software security reviews. The role is ideal for a motivated student with an interest in cybersecurity, looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment. The student will contribute to key security functions, ensuring secure user account management and aiding in the analysis and enrichment of the software security review process.
Key Responsibilities:

Account Management:
- Assist with the creation, maintenance, and deactivation of user accounts in accordance with university security policies.
- Monitor access control lists to ensure that accounts have the appropriate access permissions.
- Identify and report account anomalies or unauthorized access to the security team.
- Perform periodic audits of user accounts, updating roles and permissions as needed.

Software Security Review:
- Aid in reviewing third-party and in-house software applications for potential security vulnerabilities.
- Assist in the evaluation of software security measures, including authentication, encryption, and data protection practices.
- Support the documentation of security findings and suggestions for improvement in reports for the security team.
- Collaborate with senior team members in conducting threat modeling and risk assessments.
- Contribute to enriching the software review process by suggesting process improvements and enhanced automation where applicable.

Security Education:
- Assist in developing security awareness materials for students, faculty, and staff, including presentations, newsletters, and guides.
- Help coordinate and conduct security awareness training sessions, focusing on best practices for password management, phishing prevention, and general cyber hygiene.
- Respond to user questions and concerns related to security policies, practices, and potential threats.
- Collaborate with the security team to design campaigns aimed at educating the university community on emerging threats and secure behavior online.
Requirements:

Enrollment: Must be a current student at Missouri University of Science and Technology, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of account management and access control principles.
- Familiarity with common software vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top Ten) is a plus.
- Experience with scripting or programming languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.) is a bonus.
- Exposure to version control systems (e.g., Git) and security testing tools is beneficial.
